• Management of Learning and Differentiation by author unknown. A practical outline for dealing with 3 aspects of differentiation - time, space, and people. (note: SEN refers to special education needs)

• Differentiating Instruction: Finding Manageable Ways to Meet Individual Needs by Scott Willis and Larry Mann. A very good overview, including strategies already in use by teachers.

• How to Differentiate Instruction: Baby Steps - A Beginners Guide by Kari Sue Wehrmann. The author writes about her experiences differentiating her Grade 9 English classroom, with a particular focus on the gifted students in her class.

• Strategies for Differentiating by Priscilla Theroux, a teacher from Alberta

• Paving the way for differentiated Instruction: A Successful Classroom Culture Helps Every Child Succeed by Sheela Diederich, a Grade 1 teacher. She writes about her experiences differentiating math instruction for her students.

• Mental Mileage: How teachers are putting brain research to use by John Franklin, in Education Update, June 2005.

  This article touches theory as well as offering some strategies.

• Layered Curriculum teaching units from Kathie Nunley's Layered Curriculum website. These are unit plans that have been sent in by teachers and they give some good ideas for diverse activities.

• Differentiated Instruction:  An Overview and One Classroom’s Transformation - Make a cup of tea and reserve a good hour and a half to watch this 'webinar' that covers the theory as well as the practice of differentiating your classroom. It is realistic and down-to-earth - I really enjoyed it. It begins with an overview by Dr. Melissa Storm (from The Access Center in the United States) and then Lori Centerbar, a grade 8 teacher, gives a presentation on how she transformed her class into a differentiated one. It is in the format of a powerpoint presentation with the audio that accompanied the original webinar. Follow the instructions on how to view it carefully, it seems complicated but isn't and it is so worth it!
